10 Secrets Every Writer's Momma Should Have Told 'Em
When I was the Editor of AstoundingTales.com I got the chance to read a lot of submissions and correspond with a lot of authors. And after a while I started to spot certain common mistakes or misconceptions that a lot of writers seem to make or have. I knew that new writers would make some of these mistakes but I had no idea how many grizzled veterans were making them as well.

The Car Crash School of Writing (And Why I Hate It)
I know that some people like this kind of fiction. Life is meaningless so therefore stories should reflect the pointlessness of it all . . . There are entire schools of literature that follow this philosophy. That's CRAP! CRAP! CRAP!

Improbable Ain't the Same Thing as Impossible
In life, as in poker, sometimes people confuse what absolutely, positively, can not happen with what probably won't happen -- but could.

Trial by Your Peers

The Violinist, the Maestro, and You
You ever hear one of those 'inspirational' stories that you just can't seem to forget. It'll come to you at the oddest times and nudge your elbow as if to say: "That's just what I was talking about." Well, here's one of my favorite stories. Hope it becomes one of yours.

I Have a Dream (Not a Fantasy)
A lot of people will tell you they have dreams when what they really have are fantasies. Do you know the difference?

In Pursuit of Acceptance or How I came to Accept Rejection
It isn't easy being rejected. But for a Writer, it's part of the process.

George Lucas Got Lucky
Say it isn't so George! Say that "Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones" were just jokes. The real stories are on your "Director's Cut" DVD, right?

I Read Popular Fiction And I'm Proud!
Ever hide a good Romance novel in your handbag? Afraid to let the neighbors see that copy of "Lord of The Rings" sitting on your coffee table. Do you always prop up that leather-bound copy of "Beowulf" on your desk when your boss stops by. Take heart, Literature is more than what you've been told.
