Every web site
has to have a links page. Here are my favorites: For
Writers, For Readers or Fans, For
Fun and Author Sites. I'm not listing the
sites in any particular order so I encourage you to check them all
out. Including them here is sort of like stealing -- we all benefit
from their excellent effort.
For
Writers:
One of the best web sites for the aspiring writer.
This is the companion web site for the "Writer's Digest" magazine.
It contains news, magazine listings, and advice on the craft
and business of writing. |
www.writersmarket.com |
This site is the companion site for the: "The Writer's
Market." Free to those who've purchased the "Writer's
Market Online" edition of the Writer's Market, this site
allows you to search their on line database of book publishers,
magazine publishers, and literary agents. It also gives you the
ability to track your own submissions as well as keep folders
of your favorite publications for easy reference. |
| www.sfronline.com |
Science Fiction Romance On Line is by the same people who
put out the SFR Newsletter. They also present the "Sapphire
Awards." The Sapphire Awards are given to the best fiction
written in the genre of, you guessed it, Science Fiction Romance.
The site is not only a good resource for those who write stories
in this specific sub-genre but for all writers of science fiction.
They have articles on the craft of writing science fiction and
news on what's coming out. Worth a look. |
| www.sfwa.org |
The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America is the
premier professional writer's group for science fiction and
fantasy. Their members vote on and award the annual Nebula Awards
for excellence in the genre. Though membership is limited to
professionals (exact requirements can be found on the website)
the 'public' material is a must for anyone who wants to know
more about the craft or the business of writing. I highly recommend
the site. |
Mike Engen's Science Fiction and Fantasy Market Engine is
an excellent search engine for magazines and ezines that are
accepting speculative fiction. It's free and I highly recommend
it. |
This Horror Writer's Association is an organization of writers
and publishing professionals dedicated to horror. Best thing
is that unlike the SFWA, writers working towards a professional
career can become Associate Members. Great site. |
| http://www.ralan.com |
Ralan has been running his web site for over ten years and
it's a great place to get information on markets, publishers,
and contests. A great resource. |
This site contains the"Writer's Pocket Tax Guide."
It's for freelance writers who are trying to figure out their
taxes. A helpful reference. I'd been looking for something like
this for a while. |
|
|
One of the most popular online sites for writers. It provides
a ton of free information on the craft and business of writing
as well as guides to the magazines, editors, and agents. This
is a site you should bookmark. |
| |
|
|
|
For
Readers or Fans:
A great site to get all the news what's happening in Science
Fiction and Fantasy. The site covers television, books, and
film. It provides interview, excerpts, links to great sites,
and information on your favorite authors. |
| www.anotherealm.com |
Another Realm is an Ezine that features science fiction, horror,
and fantasy. Tons of good reading from up and coming writers.
AR also has a contest for "flash fiction." No prize
but you get the opportunity to write a story in under 1000 words.
Think you can do it? Then AR is waiting to hear from you. |
| www.sff.net |
The SFF Net is (and I quote): "the world's premier site
for genre fiction - science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance,
mystery, and young adult fiction . . . a large, bustling online
community of authors, publishers, editors, and - above all -
readers." Paid members get access to a lot more than 'guests'
but even if you don't buy a plan, there's still a great deal
of useful and fun material here. |
Alien Skin Mag is an ezine for Science Fiction, Horror, and
Fantasy. It also hosts several contests (there are entry fees
but there are also cash prizes). A good site with good reading. |
| www.staticmovementonline.com |
Static Movement is an ezine for Science Fiction, Horror,
and Fantasy. It does host a contest and is part of a group of
zines that share the same Forum area. A good place to submit. |
| www.planetmag.com |
A great quarterly of Science Fiction and Fantasy short stories.
It's been around since 1994 and includes links to all of its
back issues. |
Razar Magazine is a print magazine that features four writers
per issue. Their goal is to promote both writers and artists
by displaying not only a broad range of each writer's work but
illustrating those stories as well. They are a paying market.
|
Whortelberry Press is a publisher of ebooks. You'll find a
collection of up and coming authors represented here. All of
the books or collections are offered on diskette, making it
an affordable and easy way to read new writers. |

Have you been thinking about getting one of those devices
that allows you to record all your favorite TV shows. No, not
a VCR. ReplayTV and TiVo are the two competing products that
created the Personal Television market. This site is a detailed
comparison of the two. The "ReplayTV vs. TiVo Comparison
Chart" is a great resource for those thinking of taking
the plunge. |
|
I've always been a big fan of Amazon.com. Their service and
pricing makes them one of my favorite sites. And you can find
almost anything there! |
A great site for graphics and tools for your web site. The
Animated Gifs I use are courtesy of The Animation Factory. |
