2009
Paula Deen Can Eat Me My story "Paula Deen Can Eat Me" was included in a "shared-world" experiment over at www.anotherealm.com. The idea was for a group of writers to all write about the same time and place. This is my contribution. Read it here: http://anotherealm.org/modules/AMS/article.php?storyid=66
"The Way of the Warrior" was reviewed My story "The Way of the Warrior" was reviewed by Atomjackmagazine.com and all I can say is that they don't get much better than this. The reviewer called it a "gem" of a story and highly recommends it (amongst others). He even said that it was worth buying the anthology just for my story. You can't buy that kind of press. To read the full review, click here: http://blog.atomjackmagazine.com/?p=142
Here There Be Dragons "Here There Be Dragons" was published in Anotherealm.com's Flash Fiction contest. The theme of the contest is "School" and I wanted to do something in a Fantasy vein. So went back to an idea that's been bouncing around in my head for years. It still hasn't come to completion but this story is a step in the right direction. Check it out and rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 at www.Anotherealm.com.
Warts and All My article"Warts and All" which is about how I came to adopt my 10 year-old dog was published in the Summer edition of "The New Barker." It's not fiction but it's still a pretty good story. I've actually heard from a number of people that the article made them cry (in a good way). The New Barker is distributed mostly in Florida but if you happen to find a copy, turn to page 84 for the story.
A Box Full of Nothing My story "A Box Full of Nothing" (which was orginally published by Anotherealm.com in 2007) was reviewed by Independent Press Review. They also interviewed me. See what they said about my story and what I had to say for myself at: http://independentpressreview.blogspot.com
Something Sweet to Eat "Something Sweet to Eat" has been published in "It Was A Dark And Scary Halloween" by Whortleberry Press. The book is a collection of 36 Howl-oween stories and as you probably guessed, each story revolves around Halloween. Read more about it at www.whortleberrypress.com.

The Up Side of the Apocalypse

This is my entry in the Anotherealm.com "Epic Fail" Flash Fiction Contest. It won Second Place! The theme of the contest was some really
BIG mistake but I wanted to take it one step further. I wanted to show a really big mistake that turns out to benefit someone. So here's to all the nerds. Your time is coming. Read my entry for free. Here.
The Way of the Warrior

Five long years ago fellow writer Mike Hanson had an insane idea. He'd conceived of a story involving a "demon apocalypse" that occurred every 10,000 years called the Sha'Daa. Now the crazy part of the idea (remember, we're writers, demon apocalypses don't count as insane) was to invite a group of writers to write seperate adventures that would fit within the overall structure of the story. It was to be one story told by many voices and from many perspectives.

Well, the result was Sha'Daa Tales of the Apocalypse. It's a collection of Lovecraftian horror stories that range from the truly frightening to plain old funny. The book is being published by Altered Dimensions which is an imprint of Cyberwizard Productions. It was released on May 1st and it rocks! The book can be purchased directly from the publisher here, or through Amazon.com, or Barnes & Noble. You can even contact me directly for a sweet deal involving the book, shipping and handling (within the continental US), and an autograph -- all for just the cover price. Contact Me directly if you're interested.

Oh, and my story: The Way of the Warrior, features Shinzo, a Japanese monk who hasn't learned to master anything other than his Nintendo Game Cube. Yet, the fate of humanity may rest in his trembling hands.

A Good Man Is Hard To Find

The latest contest on Anotherealm.com is themed: "Get a Job." Pretty timely as you can guess. My entry is up and it brings back a couple of fun characters: St. Peter and Satan. Who's trying to get a job and for what reason is for you to discover. The story is available for free, here.

Tax Time

Well, with April 15th bearing down on us it's no wonder that the latest contest at Anotherealm.com has "Taxes" as the theme. You can imagine the kind of response it drew from the writers. My own humble contribution to the mix can be found, for free, here.

Post Script: Once the voting was all done my story found itself in a three-way tie for first place. After a second round of voting it won First Place against two very strong stories. My thanks to everyone who voted!

The Case of the Two Mrs. Lee's

Whotleberry Press is at it again. This time the collection of short stories involves murder and mystery. The idea was to give the collection our own unique takes on the murder mystery. I actually struggled with several ideas before I realized it was time to revist a couple of my favorite characters: Mr. Wong and his faithful cat -- Zhan. In "The Case of the Two Mrs. Lee's" Mr. Wong and Zhan are hired to rid a man of his first wife's ghost. Problem is, she doesn't want to go and she may have good reasons for staying. You can buy the book on Whortleberry's Lulu page -- here.

One Last Wish

This is my first Flash Fiction Contest entry for 2009 over at Anotherealm.com. The theme for this contest is: "A Wish Gone Horribly Wrong." Well, for that kind of mahem you have to go back to the classics. I immediately decided my story would involve a D'Jinn (also known as a Genie). Those demons of the desert are experts at making your fondest wishes go bad. But how do you put a spin on that? See what I came up with and read the story for free -- here.
